Issues of Greatest Concern to Small/Medium Field Service Businesses and Their Costs
By Gary Rawding, CEO, myServiceForce.com
Introduction
In September 2006, we began collecting data on a voluntary basis from small and medium sized field service businesses visiting myServiceForce.com’s web site. The data consisted of a request to rank the top business concerns and an option to complete a business impact calculator. The results from this information are presented below. The results and conclusions are intended to be informative and are not necessarily statistically valid.
Summary of Results
It is not surprising that the primary concerns of field service businesses are the things that make their billable resources – their field technicians – more productive. At the top to the list is the desire to eliminate the paperwork required in the field. This has the compounding impact in the work order process of saving time as well as eliminating errors and omissions.
Another overall concern was the escalation of operating costs and need to improve operating efficiency in order to increase profits.
The costs of these problems were significant across all sizes of companies. The gross improvement in profit ranged from $150,000 to $450,000 based upon size and profit margins.
